Secretory calcium-dependent phospholipaseA2 that primarily targets extracellular lipids,exerting anti-inflammatory andimmunosuppressive functions (PubMed: 10455175,PubMed: 10681567). Hydrolyzesthe ester bond of the fatty acyl groupattached at sn-2 position of phospholipids(phospholipase A2 activity) with preferencefor phosphatidylethanolamines andphosphatidylglycerols overphosphatidylcholines (PubMed: 10455175). In draininglymph nodes, selectively hydrolyzes diacyland alkenyl forms ofphosphatidylethanolamines, releasingomega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs)such as eicosapentaenoate anddocosahexaenoate that are precursors of theanti-inflammatory lipid mediators, resolvins(By similarity). During the resolution phase ofacute inflammation drivesdocosahexaenoate-derived resolvin D1synthesis, which suppresses dendritic cellactivation and T-helper 1 immune response(By similarity). May act in an autocrine andparacrine manner (By similarity). Via amechanism independent of its catalyticactivity, promotes differentiation ofregulatory T cells (Tregs) and participates inthe maintenance of immune tolerance (Bysimilarity).
