Principle of the Assay: The Human SHBG ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is an in vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of Human SHBG in Cell Culture Supernates, Serum, Plasma. This assay employs an antibody specific for Human SHBG coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and SHBG present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-Human SHBG antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of SHBG bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm.
Background: Sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) or sex steroid-binding globulin (SSBG) is a glycoprotein that binds to the two sex hormones: androgen and estrogen. The gene for SHBG is located on chromosome 17 on the short arm between the bands 17p12-p13. And this gene encodes a steroid binding protein that was first described as a plasma protein secreted by the liver but is now thought to participate in the regulation of steroid responses. The encoded protein transports androgens and estrogens in the blood, binding each steroid molecule as a dimer formed from identical or nearly identical monomers. Polymorphisms in this gene have been associated with polycystic ovary syndrome and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.

Product Notes
The Human SHBG shbg (Catalog #AAA263084) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA263084 ELISA Kit recognizes Human SHBG. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "SHBG, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
