Introduction: Monoamine Oxidase A, also known as MAOA catalyzes the oxidative deamination of biogenic as well as xenobiotic amines and has significant functions in the metabolism of neuroactive and vasoactive amines in the central nervous system as well as peripheral tissues. Mutation in MAOA results in Brunner syndrome; in addition MAOA has also been linked with a diversity of other psychiatric disorders, which includes antisocial behavior.
