OX-45 binds specifically to CD48 on rat thymocytes, T and B cells and endothelium but not LFA.3. Directly competes with CD46 for binding the target epitope. CD48 is a CD2 ligand and is expressed on the surface of all hematopoietic cells and endothelium. May be involved in the facilitation of interactions between activated lymphocytes. Likely to be involved in T cell activation.
