Background: Mouse resistin (RETN) is an 11kD cysteine-rich polypeptide belonging to a member of the RELM/FIZZ family.Resistin is a precursor of 114 amino acids containing 20 amino acid signal peptide sequence and a 94 amino acid mature fragment. The RELM/FIZZ family consists of four molecules with 10 conserved cysteines, resistin and RELMbeta have 11 cysteines, and an additional cysteine is used to form the disulfide bond in the homodimer.Mature mouse resistin has 34%, 42% and 40% amino acid homology with mouse RELMalpha, beta, and gamma, respectively. The amino acids of mature segments of mice and rats were 72% homologous.Rodent cells known to express resistin include adipose cells, intestinal epithelial cells, and skeletal muscle cells, and possibly astrocytes.Mouse resistin, originally named for its ability to resist (interfere with) insulin, affects glucose uptake without lowering insulin levels in normal mice. Resistin can lead to abnormal insulin stimulated glucose metabolism by acting on insulin target organs. In addition to its effect on insulin, resistin is also related to adipocyte differentiation, immunity, inflammation and cardiovascular diseases.

Product Notes
The Mouse Resistin (Catalog #AAA269058) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA269058 ELISA Kit recognizes Mouse Resistin. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Resistin, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
