Background: Transmembrane protease, serine 2 protein that belongs to the serine protease family. The encoded protein contains a type II transmembrane domain, a receptor class A domain, a scavenger receptor cysteine-rich domain and a protease domain. Serine proteases are known to be involved in many physiological and pathological processes. This gene was demonstrated to be up-regulated by androgenic hormones in prostate cancer cells and down-regulated in androgen-independent prostate cancer tissue.
Principle of the Assay: Mouse Transmembrane protease serine 2 (TMPRSS2) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate TMPRSS2 in samples. An antibody specific for TMPRSS2 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any TMPRSS2 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, HRP-Conjugated Mouse TMPRSS2 detection antibody is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound HRP reagent, a Chromogen solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of TMPRSS2 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
