Preparation and Storage

Adenosine triphosphate-binding cassette subfamily C member 2 (ABCC2/Abcc2) is critically important to biliary excretion of many endobiotic and xenobiotic compounds and is a major driving force for bile acid-independent bile flow. Multidrug resistance-associated protein 2 (MRP2), encoded by the ABCC2 gene, is an efflux transporter of several endogenous substrates and xenobiotics. It is an apical efflux pump representing about 10% of all membrane proteins in the liver and small intestine, and up to 25% in the colon. In these tissues, ABCC2 plays a major role in the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of endo-and xenobiotics. Dubin-Johnson syndrome (DJS) is a rare, autosomal recessive disorder, caused by a mutation in the ABCC2 gene coding the multidrug resistance-associated protein 2 (MRP2) protein.
