• Species Reactivity Note: The antibody has been directly tested for reactivity in Western blots with recombinant HeLa and 293T cells. It is anticipated that the antibody will react with bovinecanine, chicken, mouse, non-human primate, sheep, Xenopus, and zebra fish tissues based on the fact that these species have 100% homology with the amino acid sequence used as antigen.
• Biological Significance: Beclin-1 plays a key role in tumor suppression and autophagy. It has been suggested that autophagy proteins such as beclin-1 can inhibit tumorigenesis and that decreased expression of these proteins may contribute to the development of human malignancies (Liang et al., 1999). Akt-mediated phosphorylation of beclin-1 at Ser295 has been shown to decrease autophagy and promote oncogenesis (Wang et al., 2012).
• Preparation and Storage: For long term storage -80 degree C is recommended, but shorter term storage at -20 degree C is al acceptable as aliquots may be taken without freeze/thawing due to the presence of 50% glycerol. Stock solutions are stable for a minimum of 1 year at - 20 degree C.
