Function
Regulates food intake, energy expenditure and body weight in response to metabolic and toxin-induced stresses (PubMed: , PubMed: 28846097, PubMed: , PubMed: 28846099, PubMed: , PubMed: 29046435). Binds to its receptor, GFRAL, and activates GFRAL expressing neurons localized in the area postrema and nucleus tractus solitarius of the brainstem (PubMed: , PubMed: 28846097, PubMed: , PubMed: 28846099). It then triggers the activation of neurons localized within the parabrachial nucleus and central amygdala, which contitutes part of the 'emergency circuit' that shapes feeding responses to stressful conditions (PubMed: 28953886). On hepatocytes, inhibits growth hormone signaling (By similarity).
Cellular Location
Secreted
Tissue Location
Highly expressed in placenta, with lower levels in prostate and colon and some expression in kidney (PubMed:9348093) Detected in plasma (at protein level) (PubMed:28572090, PubMed:29046435).
Preparation and Storage
Maintain refrigerated at 2-8°C for up to 2 weeks. For long term storage store at -20°C in small aliquots to prevent freeze-thaw cycles.

Related Product Information for anti-GDF15 antibody
Bone morphogenetic proteins (e.g., BMP9; MIM 605120) are members of the transforming growth factor-beta (see TGFB1; MIM 190180) superfamily and regulate tissue differentiation and maintenance. They are synthesized as precursor molecules that are processed at a dibasic cleavage site to release C-terminal domains containing a characteristic motif of 7 conserved cysteines in the mature protein.

Product Notes

The GDF15 gdf15 (Catalog #AAA289598) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The GDF15 Antibody (N-term) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's GDF15 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA, FCM/FACS (Flow Cytometry), IHC (Immunohistochemistry), WB (Western Blot). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the GDF15 gdf15 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "GDF15, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
