H3-3A (H3.3 Histone A, also known as H3F3A, H3F3, H3-3B, and H3.3A) is a Protein Coding gene. This gene contains introns and its mRNA is polyadenylated, unlike most histone genes. The protein encoded is a replication-independent member of the histone H3 family. H3F3A constitutes the predominant form of histone H3 in non-dividing cells and is incorporated into chromatin independently of DNA synthesis. H3F3A is widely expressed in bone marrow, appendix, and other tissues. Diseases associated with H3-3A include Glioma Susceptibility 1 and Chondroblastoma. A mutation in the H3 histone family member 3A gene (H3F3A) was recently identified as a genetic signature for giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB).
