Phosphoserine aminotransferase 1 (PSAT1) is an enzyme implicated in serine biosynthesis, and its overexpression has been linked to cancer cell proliferation. Therefore, targeting PSAT1 is considered to be an anticancer strategy. PSAT1 is identified as the top-ranked upregulated gene in colorectal cancer (CRC) and was highly expressed in patients with the chemoresistant disease. The overexpression of PSAT1 is associated with colon cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, and breast cancer. Inhibiting PSAT1 might aid in the treatment of lung cancer, and PSAT1 may be a therapeutic target for lung cancer. PSAT1, which is overexpressed in estrogen receptor (ER)-negative breast cancers, is activated by ATF4 and promotes cell cycle progression via regulation of the GSK3beta/beta-catenin/cyclin D1 pathway.
