PTEN (phosphatase and tensin homolog) is a phosphatidylinositol-3,4,5-triphosphate 3-phosphatase that has been identified as a tumor suppressor. PTEN is a dual specificity tyrosine and serine/threonine phosphatase that preferentially dephosphorylates phosphoinositide substrates and negatively regulates the AKT/PKB signaling pathway.
