Thioredoxin-like protein, or TXNL1 is a two-domain of 32kDa protein composed of an N-terminal Trx domain and a C-terminal domain that interacts with the 26S proteasome. TXNL1 is abundant, metabolically stable, and widely expressed and is present in the cytoplasm and nucleus. TXNL1 has thioredoxin activity with a redox potential of about -250 mV. TXNL1 plays a selective role in the regulation of fluid phase endocytosis, by controlling Guanine Nucleotide Dissociation Inhibitor (GDI) capacity to capture Rab5.
