Principle of the Assay: The Rat GDF5 ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is an in vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of Rat GDF5 in Cell Culture Supernates, Serum, Plasma. This assay employs an antibody specific for Rat GDF5 coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and GDF5 present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-Rat GDF5 antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of GDF5 bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm.
Background: Growth/differentiation factor 5 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the GDF5 gene. GDF5 is a protein belonging to the transforming growth factor beta superfamily that is expressed in the developing central nervous system, and has a role in skeletal and joint development. It also increases the survival of neurones that respond to the neurotransmitter dopamine, and is a potential therapeutic molecule associated with Parkinson's disease.

Product Notes
The Rat GDF5 gdf5 (Catalog #AAA263163) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA263163 ELISA Kit recognizes Rat GDF5. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "GDF5, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
