Background: Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) is an androgen, a male sex hormone that is present in the blood of both men and women. It has a role to play in developing male secondary sexual characteristics at puberty, and it can be metabolised by the body into stronger androgens, such as testosterone and androstenedione, or can be converted into the female hormone oestrogen. DHEAS is produced by the adrenal cortex, the outer layer of the adrenal glands, with smaller amounts being produced by a woman's ovaries and man's testes
Principle of the Assay: Mouse Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate DHEA-S in samples. An antibody specific for DHEA-S has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any DHEA-S present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, HRP-Conjugated Mouse DHEA-S detection antibody is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound HRP reagent, a Chromogen solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of DHEA-S bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
