Background: Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are also called matrixins, because they need metal ions such as Ca and Zn as cofactors. MMPs can degrade almost all kinds of protein components in ECM, destroy the histological barrier of tumor cell invasion, and play a key role in tumor invasion and metastasis. Therefore, the role of MMPs in tumor invasion and metastasis has been paid more and more attention, and it is considered as the main proteolytic enzyme in this process.
Principle of the Assay: Human Matrix metalloproteinase 5 (MMP5) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate MMP5 in samples. An antibody specific for MMP5 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any MMP5 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, HRP-Conjugated Human MMP5 detection antibody is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound HRP reagent, a Chromogen solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of MMP5 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
