Background: Ubiquitin is a highly conserved nuclear and cytoplasmic protein that has a major role in targeting cellular proteins for degradation by the 26S proteosome. It is also involved in the maintenance of chromatin structure, the regulation of gene expression, and the stress response. Ubiquitin is synthesized as a precursor protein consisting of either polyubiquitin chains or a single ubiquitin moiety fused to an unrelated protein. UBA52 encodes a fusion protein consisting of ubiquitin at the N terminus and ribosomal protein L40 at the C terminus, a C-terminal extension protein (CEP). Multiple processed pseudogenes derived from this gene are present in the genome.

Principle of the Assay: Human Ubiquitin-60S ribosomal protein L40 (UBA52) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate UBA52 in samples. An antibody specific for UBA52 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any UBA52 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, HRP-Conjugated Human UBA52 detection antibody is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound HRP reagent, a Chromogen solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of UBA52 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
