Biological Significance
Acetylcholinesterase, also known as AChE, is an enzyme responsible for the hydrolytic degradation of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, producing choline and an acetate group. AchE is found at neuromuscular junctions and cholinergic nervous system, where its activity serves to terminate synaptic transmission.
