Function
Suppresses apoptosis in a variety of cell systems including factor-dependent lymphohematopoietic and neural cells. Regulates cell death by controlling the mitochondrial membrane permeability. Appears to function in a feedback loop system with caspases. Inhibits caspase activity either by preventing the release of cytochrome c from the mitochondria and/or by binding to the apoptosis-activating factor (APAF-1). May attenuate inflammation by impairing NLRP1-inflammasome activation, hence CASP1 activation and IL1B release (PubMed: ).
Cellular Location
Mitochondrion outer membrane; Single-pass membrane protein. Nucleus membrane; Single-pass membrane protein. Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Single-pass membrane protein
Tissue Location
Expressed in a variety of tissues.
Preparation and Storage
Maintain refrigerated at 2-8°C for up to 2 weeks. For long term storage store at -20°C in small aliquots to prevent freeze-thaw cycles.
Related Product Information for anti-BCL2 antibody
This gene encodes an integral outer mitochondrial membrane
protein that blocks the apoptotic death of some cells such as
lymphocytes. Constitutive expression of BCL2, such as in the case
of translocation of BCL2 to Ig heavy chain locus, is thought to be
the cause of follicular lymphoma. Two transcript variants, produced
by alternate splicing, differ in their C-terminal ends. [provided

Product Notes
The BCL2 bcl2 (Catalog #AAA286509) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The immunogen sequence is 144-171. The BCL2 Antibody (Center) reacts with Human Predicted Reactivity: Bovine, Chicken, Hamster, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's BCL2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA, WB (Western Blot). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the BCL2 bcl2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "BCL2, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
