The HAV genome consists of ~7500 nucleotides and divided into 5' non-coding region (5'NCR), a giant open reading frame (ORF), and a 3' non-coding region (3'NCR). The ORF is translated ans simultaneoulsy processed by a viral protease to make 4 structural proteins (VP1-4) and 7 non-structural proteins (2A, 2B, 2C, 3A, 3B, 3C, 3D).
