Principle of the Assay: Human IL-5 gene encodes a cytokine that acts as a growth and differentiation factor for both B cells and eosinophils. The encoded cytokine plays a major role in the regulation of eosinophil formation, maturation, recruitment and survival. The increased production of this cytokine may be related to pathogenesis of eosinophil-dependent inflammatory diseases.Human IL-5 ELISA Kit employs a double antibody sandwich method to quantitate Human IL-5 in samples. An antibody specific for Human IL-5 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any Human IL-5 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for Human IL-5 is added to the wells. After washing, proprietary Streptavidin-HRP conjugates is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound streptavidin-enzyme reagent, adding HRP Substrate (TMB), TMB turns blue under the catalysis of HRP, and turns yellow after adding stop solution. Measure the OD value with a microplate reader at 450nm wavelength. The IL-5 concentration is proportional to the OD450 nm value.
