LIN28 plays a critical role in the developmental transition, glucose metabolism, and tumorigenesis. At the molecular level, LIN28 is known to repress the maturation of let-7 microRNAs and enhance the translation of certain mRNAs. Aberrant expression of this gene is associated with cancer progression in multiple tissues. LIN28A is an important factor in tumor cells and ESCs, it is an inhibitor of the intracellular endoplasmic reticulum (ER)related protein translation in ESCs.
