Principle of the Assay: The Rat CD56 ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is an in vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of Rat CD56 in Cell Culture Supernates, Serum, Plasma. This assay employs an antibody specific for Rat CD56 coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and CD56 present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-Rat CD56 antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of CD56 bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm.
Background: Neural Cell Adhesion Molecule, NCAM, also known as the cluster of differentiation CD56, is a hemophilic binding glycoprotein. This glycoprotein is mainly expressed on the surface of neurons, glia, skeletal muscle and natural killer cells. NCAM has been implicated as having a role in cell-cell adhesion, neurite outgrowth, synaptic plasticity, and learning and memory. This gene encodes a cell adhesion protein which is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. The encoded protein is involved in cell-to-cell interactions as well as cell-matrix interactions during development and differentiation. And the encoded protein has been shown to be involved in development of the nervous system, and for cells involved in the expansion of T cells and dendritic cells which play an important role in immune surveillance.

Product Notes
The Rat NCAM1 ncam1 (Catalog #AAA263168) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA263168 ELISA Kit recognizes Rat NCAM1. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CD56, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
