When to Choose a Custom ELISA Kit, When to Buy a Ready-to-Use ELISA Kit?
Requirements for an ELISA kit can vary from project-to-project. Here are some strategies for making an informed decision about whether to go with a ready-to-use or a customized ELISA kit:
When to Choose a Ready-to-Use ELISA Kit:
- Your target analyte is already available in the catalog
- You need quick and reliable results without additional optimization
- You are using “typical” sample types like serum, plasma, or cell culture supernatants
- Your project requires cost-effective, validated, and widely used assays
When to Choose a Custom ELISA Kit:
- Your analyte of interest is rare, novel, or not covered in existing kits
- You are working with uncommon species or non-standard sample types
- You need a specific assay format (competitive, sandwich, or indirect) tailored to your study
- Your research demands unique sensitivity, specificity, or detection ranges
- You want the assay optimized for your lab’s workflow and requirements
AAA Biotech supports both ready-to-use ELISA kits and Custom Assay Development Services, giving researchers the flexibility to select the best solution for their scientific goals.
ELISA Kit Protocol
The user manuals for our ELISA kits are conveniently accessible through the datasheets on our website or can be provided upon request. Each manual contains a clear explanation of the assay principle, a complete list of kit components, and a step-by-step protocol. These guides are designed to be straightforward, making them suitable for researchers who are new to ELISA techniques as well as experienced users who need a quick, reliable reference. In addition, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all products are available upon request to ensure safe handling.
What sets AAA Biotech apart is not just the range of assays we offer, but the consistency and reliability of our reagents. Every kit is carefully validated, ensuring that researchers can trust the results for both routine testing and advanced studies.
To avoid common errors and improve accuracy, refer to our guide on “common ELISA mistakes and how to avoid them”.
FAQ
1. When should I use a competitive ELISA assay?
Competitive ELISA is ideal when the target analyte is a smaller molecule (such as hormones or other short peptides or lipids/sugars) and there is unlikely to be sufficient surface or possible epitopes on the analyte/molecule to allow for two antibodies to be able to bind to it simultaneously (as would be required by an ELISA using the traditional “sandwich” design format).
2. What samples can ELISA kits be used for?
ELISA kits are compatible with a wide variety of biological samples, including serum, plasma, cell culture supernatants, urine, saliva, and tissue homogenates. Serum & plasma are routinely tested with the vast majority of kits in our catalog, but since many target analytes do not exist in these sample types, some will be further validated with various tissue homogenate or cell lysate samples. The samples ultimately tested by the manufacturing lab technician will largely depend on the target analyte’s typical location in an organism, or where its presence is of interest to the research community.
3. How long can I store my sample before using it for an ELISA assay?
Sample shelf-life ultimately depends on the intrinsic stability of the target analyte in the samples’ specific biological matrix, and also any other factors affecting it during storage (such as added preservatives and temperature). Generally:
- Short-term (up to 48 hours): Store at 2–8°C
- Long-term: Store at -20°C or -80°C for most biological samples
4. Where can I buy an ELISA test kit?
You can browse AAA Biotech’s comprehensive catalog and place your order directly through our website. For special requirements, you can also submit a request for a custom ELISA kit.
5. Why are ELISA tests costly?
ELISA kits involve high-quality reagents, validated antibodies, and precise controls to ensure accurate and reproducible results. Costs also reflect research and development, quality control, and the rigorous validation process required to support reliable scientific outcomes. While they may seem expensive, the investment ensures high sensitivity, specificity, and trustworthy data required by our users’ critical research.
